Prophecy: from skein to shawl
This shawl took a few years to complete. It would have anyway, I’ve no doubt, but along the way I realized that working with high percentage silk fibers gives me a headache. One of the three yarns in this shawl was a 50/50 blend of yak and silk : decandently luxurious and soft, but sadly headache inducing. I was determined to finish it though, and I did!
It has since found a home with someone who is not as sensitive to silk as I am, where I am sure it is well loved.
The three skeins that went into this piece were spun separately: a merino/tussah/flax blend, a yak/silk blend, and a merino/tencel blend. They paired beautifully.
The pattern used was the Prophecy Shawl by Tyne Swedish (@clevereststich)
Sea Change
The ocean warms, absorbing the heat of our folly. Ice melts, fish die, sea rises, coastlines change. Sea Change is a four panel tapestry woven as a reflection of the inevitable sea level rise brought about by climate change and the swell of inevitable grief that change will bring in its wake.
This tapestry piece is woven of handspun gradient wool on a wool warp. The weft is spun from superwash domestic wool that fades from browns and greys to blues and greens and into turquoise. It was woven in 2019 and is currently available in the shop.
Are you a knitter? I need pattern help! Santa's Village 12 Days of Christmas spinalong
If you've been following me on Instagram, you may have seen bits and pieces of this spin come together: it was a really fun spinalong with Inglenook Fiber's group over on Ravelry. Spun from fluffly batts of a blend of wools, silks, and sparkle, I ended up with a (mostly) worsted weight yarn. This was a bit of an experiment for me, playing around with spinning thicker loftier singles than I frequently aim for for weaving, and I learned to chain ply! It was super fun and super satisfying. But now I'm stuck!
I want to knit this up into something just for me, I'm leaning towards a small shawl or scarf. My problem is that almost all of the patterns I have saved are for fingering weight yarn in larger yardage quantities than I have here. I have approximately 190 yards of mostly worsted weight yarn. I'm looking at the Quaker Yarn Stretcher pattern or at a more free form short row experiment, but I'm not entirely in love with either idea.... do any of you knitters have any suggestions for me?
